Two paths lead into World of Warcraft endgame: raids, where a large group fights a scripted boss, and Mythic+, where five players repeat dungeons against a timer. Both give gear. Neither is "the correct" one. The right answer depends on how you like to learn and how much time you can block out in one sitting.
A raid is a fixed appointment. You show up at 20:00 with a group of ten to thirty players, and for two or three hours you work on bosses that behave exactly the same way every attempt. Progress comes from repetition and from the group learning together.
What makes raiding good for beginners: the mechanics are readable, there is usually a raid leader explaining the fight, and one person making a mistake rarely ruins the attempt. What makes it hard: you cannot raid whenever you feel like it, and a twenty-person group takes twenty people to be on time.
Mythic+ is spontaneous. You can list a group at any hour and be inside a dungeon in two minutes. A run takes twenty to forty minutes, and the reward is immediate.
What makes it good for beginners: no schedule, short sessions, and the difficulty scales so you can always find a level that fits you. What makes it hard: five players means each mistake is a larger share of the group, the timer punishes hesitation, and nobody stops to explain the route.
- You have two uninterrupted hours, twice a week. Raid. The social structure will teach you the game faster than random groups.
- You play in short bursts, at odd hours. Mythic+. You will get more actual playtime per week.
- You want gear fast and do not care about the process. Mythic+ scales with effort more directly; raid loot is weekly and partly random.
- You are brand new to group content. Start with Mythic+ at low keys. Five players is a much gentler place to learn than a twenty-person voice call.
The most common mistake is trying to learn raiding and high Mythic+ in the same week while also doing daily content. You end up mediocre at all three. Pick one as your "main" activity for a month, let the other be the thing you do when a friend invites you.
In practice, most players mix them: Mythic+ for the weekly vault and steady upgrades, raiding for the specific trinkets and set bonuses that only drop from bosses. Neither path alone fills every slot efficiently.
If you know the fight but cannot commit to a raid night, a carry run solves the logistics without skipping the content: Castle of Nathria Heroic Full Gear and WoW Delves Boost both work around your availability rather than a guild calendar.
Raids teach you the game slowly and socially. Mythic+ teaches you the game quickly and independently. Neither is wasted time. Choose based on whether your problem is "I do not understand the fights" or "I cannot commit to a schedule", and solve that problem first.
